Position Description: An Environmental Scientist performs a broad range of staff work concerning present and future environmental, environmental health, and natural resource management issues related to protecting the State’s natural resources and public health. Incumbents give presentations; prepare environmental permitting packages, regulatory permits, and other environmental documents; implement enforcement of various environmental and environmental health-related regulations; and conduct natural resource management, planning, and implementation activities. Vacancies are anticipated at various departments throughout State service including, but not limited to the Departments of Conservation, Fish and Game, Parks and Recreation, Pesticide Regulation, Public Health, Water Resources, and the State Lands Commission. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a bachelor’s or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, or a closely related scientific discipline. (Admission to a master’s or doctoral degree program in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science or a closely related scientific discipline shall be considered to meet these education qualifications.) Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of a degree before they can be considered eligible for appointment. DFG is participating in this multi-departmental exam and will use this list to fill environmental scientist vacancies. The application and exam is available on a continuous basis on the Internet. You can assess the exam by logging onto the California State Government Personnel Board and entering "environmental scientist" in the keyword(s) field and click "search". Scroll and click on the Recruitment Title " Environmental Scientist (New)". The Job Recruitment (Examination Bulletin) will appear. The recruitment provides a detailed description of the qualifications needed and a link to apply online is at the bottom of the bulletin. Please be sure to follow the instructions for this examination. As this is an internet exam, we will not be accepting applications at DFG. Position Description: Assist staff and volunteers with all aspects of animal care including, but not limited to: This internship is unpaid. Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Science, medical care or natural science background required. Must be able to lift minimum of 50lbs. Work performed requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing and other moderately strenuous activities. Must have respect for wildlife and courtesy towards the public. At the time of the interview, the applicant must demonstrate proof of a negative TB test within the past year and a current tetanus vaccination. Rabies pre-exposure vaccination is preferred. 10-Week Session Dates: Full-time internships are also available for all Sessions. Housing/Transportation: Housing and transportation are the responsibility fo the intern. Very limited on-site housing is available (up to 2 individuals at a time). All individuals selected for on-site housing, regardless of Session, will be required to complete 40 hours per week. Must have own transportation and current drivers license.
