November Fire/Rescue Incidents: November 21, 2007 -- Large Stack of Haybales Lit on Fire Just after 2100 hours CVFC was alerted for a brush fire along the side of Glebe Road. Assistant Chief 1-2 Brandon Dixon went en-route and was advised of several additional calls reporting a large stack of haybales. Dixon arrived on scene with an approximate 30' high and 100' long stack of bales involved. Engine 116 and Tanker 1 were enroute when two additional engines and tankers were added to the box. Rescue & Tanker 9 and Kent County Engine & Tanker 3 were picked up on the alarm. Engine 116 arrived and pulled 2 - 1 3/4" lines and begin with suppression efforts. Tanker 1 and Rescue 9 set up water supply for Engine 116 while Engine 3, Tanker 3 and Tanker 9 staged at the end of the lane. With no exposure problems or any chance of breaking down the 30' high pile, Command made the decision to stop all suppression efforts and allow the bales to burn freely. The property owner was on scene and agreed to stay overnight with the fire. Engine 116 and Tanker 1 remained on scene until approximately 0100 hours when the pile had burned down further. The State Fire Marshal's Office responsed due to the suspicious nature and ruled the fire intentional. November 4-8, 2007 -- Combat World Challenge XVI from Las Vegas What a trip!!!! As the team boarded Jet Blue Flight 323 the flight staff announced us over the intercom and we entered to a large applause from the passengers. The challenge was held on Freemont Street under the large canopy. After a very long night Team Cecilton ran the course with a clean run, no penalties, and one of its best times of 1:48 seconds. Jason Reamy started it off by running up the tower with the highrise pack, Team Captain John Upp pulled up the donut roll, Lee O'Neal banged away on the Keiser, Bobby Plato ran flat out in the hose drag and Brian Corbett finished it off with the dummy drag. However, we missed out on the final round by 1.5 seconds. We were the second team from the cut line. Team Cecilton would also like to congratulate Singerly Fire Company on its great run. Maybe next year we can make it to the next level. We would like to thank everyone again for helping us to make it to Vegas and compete. October Fire/Rescue Incidents: October 31, 2007 -- Serious MVC Just after 1525 hours CVFC was alerted for a single vehicle MVC along Pond Neck Road. Assistant Chief 1 T. Jay Bolton was the first to arrive and advised of a single vehicle vs. tree with rescue. Due to 5 juvenile priority 1 patients, Command requested aviation and 3 additional ambulances to the scene. Rescue 1, Ambulance 192 and CC Paramedic 3 made the initial response to the scene. Rescue 1 arrived and the crew stabilized the vehicle and began to assist with patient care. Ambulances 991, 291, KC Ambulance 3 and MSP Trooper 6 arrived shortly after. With the severity of the injuries to one of the trapped patients, the decision was made to pull the patient out before cutting anything and load him onto the waiting aviation unit. A request was made for an additional ALS unit and aviation. This request brought Paramedic 4 & 6, IV 131 and MSP Trooper 1. The second patient was removed by making access to the patient through the rear hatch door. Once the patients were packaged it was decided that two of the remaining would be flown to John Hopkins and two would travel by land to Christiana Hospital. All EMS units cleared the scene shortly after and Rescue 1 remained on scene to help MSP with the reconstruction of the collision. Rescue 9 was on location to handle the LZ for the two aviation units. All units were cleared the scene by 1730 hours. October 28, 2007 -- Combat Challenge Turkey Dinner The team would like to thank the cooks, Joan and Amy, for all the time and effort they gave to help with the dinner. We served over 250 people and with the money from the dinner and all donations received we had enough money to cover the trip. The five man team consists of John Upp(Team Captain), Brian Corbett, Bobby Plato, Lee O'Neal and Jason Reamy. Our flight leaves on Monday November 5th and we will be completing on Tuesday. Special thanks to Cecilton members Christy Biggs and Mike Scheeler for their large contribution to the team. We plan to make everyone proud. October 19, 2007 -- Engine, Tanker & Ambulance head to Chesapeake City Once the crew had finished cleaning the Rescue from its run to Galena, CVFC was hit for an Engine and Tanker to assist Chesapeake City on a working House/Trailer Fire. Ambulance 192 was heading back from its transfer to Sta. 3 Galena and also made the response. Chief 2 arrived on scene with heavy fire showing and possible rescue. Ambulance 192 was one of the first pieces to arrive and since Chesapeake had an ambulance on scene for rehab 192's crew was assigned to search and rescue. FF's Pardee, Reamy and Davis entered the trailer and completed a search of the dwelling with nothing found. Engine 114 and Tanker 1 were placed into staging once they arrived. All CVFC apparatus was released around 2045 hours. October 19, 2007 -- Rescue runs to Galena Around 1845 hours CVFC was alerted for the Rescue to assist Sta. 3 Galena with a farm machinery accident. Command 3 had arrived with a subject that had been trapped under a farm tractor. While attempting to mow the banks of a ditch the tractor overturned onto the operator and partially pinned him under it. Rescue 1 arrived and assisted with removing the patient out of the ditch. The crew also handled traffic control while MSP Trooper 6 arrived to transport the patient to Baltimore Shock Trauma. Rescue 1 cleared around 1930 hours. Ambulance 192 was transferred to Sta. 3 Galena while they cleaned up Ambulance 3 and were able to put it back into service. October 7, 2007 -- Another Field Fire in Galena Around 1415 hours CVFC was alerted to assist Sta. 3 Galena with a brush, engine and tanker on a large field fire. Command 3 had arrived with a field of cut corn with approximately 25 acres burned. Brush 1, Engine 116, Utility 131 and Tanker 1 all made the response to the scene. Brush 1 and Engine 116 were directed into the field to began helping with fire suppression. Tanker 1 and Utility 131 staged in the driveway until being release after approximately 20 minutes. Brush 1 and Engine 116 remained on scene until approximately 1600 hours. October 6, 2007 -- 2nd Annual CVFC Softball Invitational The weather this year was perfect for a day of softball. Christiana Fire Company traveled the furtherest distance and were well rewarded when they played undefeated to win the Championship Trophy vs Perryville. Christiana's Coach Jim Battles nominated the team to receive the MVP Trophy. Both trophies will be presented to the company at their next meeting and proudly displayed at their station. The final standings were Christiana, Perryville, Singerly, Galena, North East, Cecilton, Chestertown and Chesapeake City. A special thanks to Jack Duhamell of Clean Cut Lawn Care and the Christiana Softball Team for their donation towards Team Cecilton's trip to Las Vegas for the Combat Challenge. September Fire/Rescue Incidents: September 29, 2007 -- Rescue 1 assists on Fatal MVC At 2345 hours Hacks Point VFC along with Rescue 1 were alerted for a motor vehicle collision resported serious. Chief 9 arrived first to the scene and found two vehicles head-on with one Priority 4 and two priority 1's. Chief 9 added an ambulance and additional manpower from Sta. 1. Rescue 1 was the first piece to arrive and was assigned to stabilize one vehicle and began removing the door. Once access was made to the driver's side the patient was removed and the crew assisted with packaging the two patients. Both patients were flown by MSP Trooper 1 to Christiana Hospital. Rescue operations were halted until the arrival of the MSP Crash Team. Once the scene was turned back over crews from Rescue 1 and 9 went to work to remove the deceased from the second vehicle with extrication taking approximately 30 minutes. Rescue 1 remained on scene to provide lighting for MSP
