Description

Creative Conflict Resolution is a specific set of attitudes, disciplines and skills by which we can use the everyday mundane conflicts which we all experience (and most of us seek to ignore) to guide ourselves to a clearer relationship to ourselves, more intimate relationships with others, and a deeper relationship to the Divine. This technique for spiritual transformation or conversion has been developed by drawing on: - The non-violence lessons of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr., - The techniques of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy; and - Lessons learned from the close study of intimate systems in violent conflict. Mastering the discipline involves: - Learning to see conflict as an opportunity for discovering positive personal change rather than an obligation to try to change others or to acquiesce to their demands; - Using the passions of anger and desire in ways that insure safety and support mutually satisfying relationships; - Learning to balance responsiveness to one's own needs with empathy for the concerns of others; - Learning to appropriately implement the healing powers of apology and forgiveness; - Refining a spiritual discipline karma yoga that brings us into harmony with the Spirit which wills reconciliation, healing and peace.
