Description
Teachers and Scientists Collaborating is a research project funded by the National Science Foundation and supported by GlaxoSmithKline, Progress Energy, and the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University. CIBL's purpose is to provide North Carolina K-8 students with opportunities to learn to think as scientists: critically, creatively, and independently. CIBL accomplishes this by providing a variety of low-cost teacher trainings. These trainings focus on science content, inquiry-based teaching, and effective use of science materials. Additionally, our premiere 2-day kit trainings include materials support and a scientist mentor for each teacher who attends training. CIBL also provides strategic planning assistance at the school district level. NSF funding ceases in September, 2007, and our grant mandates the creation of an independent nonprofit to continue this work beyond that date. Under the guidance of NSF, CIBL is establishing the Center for Inquiry-Based Learning which will serve as that independent nonprofit organization.
