Grammar: Through participating in variety of interpersonal and interpersonal communication exercises, students learn to both speak and write using standard American English grammar. -Composition: With the aid of sample writing models, students compose original drafts of literary works, which will then be subject to revision and editing until a satisfactory final draft is reached. -Reading: Students cultivate critical reading skills through practical exposure to a variety of literary texts contained within the curriculum. Course reading assignments practice students' selection of the main idea, identification of supporting ideas, differentiation of fact from opinion, understanding of different points of view, and reaching summary conclusions. -Vocabulary: Students are immersed in the American English vocabulary covering a wide variety of topics including food, clothing, housing, sporting, industry, business, finance, employment, education, entertainment, science, and technology. -Listening: Good listening habits are key to the development of good speaking and conversation skills. Students will practice this skill by actively listening to different kinds of audio and audiovisual programs and then discussing the ideas and feelings being expressed. -Speaking: Students participate in a variety of oral exercises with the purpose of practicing the initiation and conclusion of interpersonal conversations and facilitating the effective discussion of topics in American English. -Pronunciation: Intensive pronunciation drills promote the successful development of American English speech skills including proper sound, stress, and intonation.
