Since being awarded the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open we have been making regular improvements to the golf course, designed to provide setup variability for major championship golf. These course improvements have also required the patience of our customers as they result in temporary disruptions to the golf experience. In September 2013, we embarked on our final round of U.S. Open course improvements. In order to ensure that we present the absolute best fescue putting surfaces we have re-seeded the greens on holes #10 & #13. We will also return to an alternate green on #1 & #4 (renovated in 2012) in order to give those putting surfaces time to heal and re-establish a healthy stand of fescue turf. While these greens grow-in we will play to alternate greens in the fairway approach, maintained at green height.

There will be increased activity in the local communities leading up to and during the championship. The impact on particular businesses depends on many factors including, but not limited to, the type and location of the business. Some businesses will see a significant spike during the championship, while others should expect normal business volume. Spending during the Championship week is primarily focused on travel related industries. However, significant spending will also occur pre-championship by the USGA and its vendors during the construction of facilities required for the championship. While specific business segments may not benefit directly impacted by the championship, the overall economic impact of the championship ($150 million) will positively impact Pierce County and the surrounding areas. The championship relies heavily on the support of local residents and business owners. We will be contacting many business owners prior to the championship to ask about providing goods and services to our players, officials, volunteers and support staff.
