The elected and appointed officials who serve the community of Charleston are a dedicated group of individuals who are committed to providing exceptional citizen service at all times.

The manager is hired to serve the council and the community and to bring to the local government the benefits of training and experience in administering local government projects and programs on behalf of the governing body. The manager prepares a recommended budget for the council's consideration; recruits, hires, and supervises the government's staff; serves as the council's chief adviser; and carries out the council's policies. Council members and citizens count on the manager to provide complete and objective information, pros and cons of alternatives, and long-term consequences.

The Southeastern Illinois SCORE Chapter No. 0706, located in Charleston, Illinois, was initially organized in 2005 as a branch of Decatur Illinois SCORE Chapter #296. The Southeastern Illinois Chapter is jointly sponsored by the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce and Eastern Illinois University’s Lumpkin College of Business & Applied Sciences. The SCORE office is located in Lumpkin Hall, Room 3106, on EIU’s campus in Charleston.

The week of September 10 - 14 has officially been proclaimed “Chamber of Commerce Week.” This year marks the 93rd Anniversary for the Charleston Chamber and we would like to thank all our members for their support over the years. The Chamber is the principal vehicle through which businesses and professional people work together for the common good and advancement of the community. There are many reasons to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
