Chief Cliff Quarter Horses is located at the base of Chief Cliff in Elmo, Montana. It is run by Sigurd Jensen and Zoe Lilja--Montana neighbors who share not only a common fence line but also an interest in quarter horses and a philosophy with regard to their breeding. Sigurd is a third generation rancher so cattle and horses have always been part of his life. He's been around horses--raising, training and chasing cows with them--for most of his life. On top of that, during the 70's and 80's his father raised thoroughbreds and raced them, and his grandfather before that broke teams for the homesteaders in north central Montana. Needless to say, Sigurd has a solid grounding (and education) in agriculture and animal husbandry. Deep down, though, he's still the cow guy. Zoe is the one who's loved horses since she was a kid, would've grown up in a barn if she'd had her choice, and fulfills that dream each foaling season by sleeping amidst saddle blankets and sweet feed while awaiting the birth of each new foal. She's owned from one or more hay-burners for most of the past 20 years, and enjoys most of what goes into caring for and raising horses. She takes the photographs, handles the paperwork, helps with the doctoring, and does some groundwork with the colts, but her main responsibility is to equinize the cow guy.
