Description
Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church was established when two churches, Bell Avenue Baptist (begun in 1879) and McCalla Avenue Baptist (begun in 1913) merged into one on October 4, 1987. It was a fresh start, a new beginning for the church and the community. Since that time, two pastors and one interim pastor have led the people of Chilhowee Hills. In January 1988, Rev. John Shepherd was called as the first pastor, serving nearly 10 years. Under his direction the congregation grew and programs were added. The facilities were expanded and properties were purchased. A Christian Life Center and new children's classrooms were added in1996 as part of Long-range Plans, looking ahead towards what the congregation believed God would do in the future if they were obedient. In faith they prepared for what they believed God for. In 1998 under the direction of the Lord, John began Calvary Road Ministries, leaving Chilhowee Hills.
