Choice Medical, LLC was established in May of 2002 by Kirk Coughlin and Kevin Henning. With over fifty years of combined experience in the Durable Medical Industry, these two men found a great opportunity to start their own business. After receiving his biomedical electronics degree (AAS), Henning started his career with Miller Medical Service in Waterloo.

A few years later, he came to Ames to pursue his electronic engineering degree at Iowa State University (BSEE). While a student, he worked part-time for Excel Medical (a former medical equipment business in Ames). Coughlin has experience in managing Excel Medical for many years. While working together, the two men discussed owning their own business some day. With the departure of Excel Medical from the Ames market, an opportunity was realized for the entrepreneurs.

A supplier must have comprehensive liability insurance in the amount of at least $300,000 that covers both the supplier's place of business and all customers and employees of the supplier. If the supplier manufactures its own items, this insurance must also cover product liability and completed operations.
