Membership in CHPA is open to active duty, retired and veteran helicopter aircrew members from all branches of service and all wars in which the US has flown helicopters. In addition to the camaraderie associated with a gathering of combat helicopter pilots, CHPA provides mentoring and other services to current and former pilots and crew members and the families of our fallen warriors who've been left behind. Part of our mentoring program includes career assistance and guidance to individuals dealing with issues relating to claims and other benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Assistance Request In the January edition of "The Swashplate" we relate the story of two Vietnam veterans from 1/9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. One needed a kidney. The other, selflessly and without hesitation, gave him one. Greater love hath no man ... The operation was a success and both families involved, I'm sure, have insurance but there are costs associated with this occasion that are not covered by insurance. Both families had to travel to San Antonio, TX for the operation so there are travel expenses, lodging and meal expenses these families will have to bear. CHPA is joining with others from the 1st Cavalry Division Association and has established an account to support these families and help defray the costs of these uncovered expenses. Holiday Boxes for the Troops Another Great Success! Thank you to everyone who donated to make the 2009 Holiday Boxes for the Troops project another tremendous success. Last year, CHPA provided 84 boxes for aviators and air crew members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, with your generous help, we will provide 145 boxes for deployed troops.
