Description

The original building the Cape Cod-style "saltbox" that is the front section of the red house is believed to have been built in 1778 as the farmhouse of the Rufus Pinkham family. In 1786, the front portion of what today is the Main Inn was erected and became the new Pinkham homestead. The red house was then converted to storage use. At one point, though, the red house was the local "lockup." Our huge barn, with its hand-hewn beams and mortise and peg joints, has been dated by historical and architectural experts as being built around the same time as the Main Inn.
