Artist's Profile - Cloyd Barnes Cloyd Barnes was born in Hartford, Arkansas in rural America. Thus he grew up with horses, and early memories were deeply rooted in saddle leather and the fascinating ways of a horse. He earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Tulsa University in 1968. After graduation he moved his family to New Mexico where he developed an increased interest in Western history and a desire to recreate it in art. He produced his first limited edition bronze sculptures in 1977. He continued his art studies and production while pursuing a career in Management/Engineering with General Dynamics and later Dynalectron Corporation on White Sands Missle Range, N.M. A move to Denver in 1986 employed by Lockheed Martin provided greater art opportunities with accessibility to educational workshops and foundries. His art continues to reflect interest in the American/West and its wildlife. Cloyd retired from Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in 1991 to sculpt full time. Cloyd’s cougar, ‘Take Five’ has received five major awards including the Helen G. Oehler Memorial Award from the American Artists Professional League in NYC. His bronc, ‘Double Trouble’ received Best of Show/Westerm from National Wildlife Art Show in Kansas City, KS. ‘Tracks’ received Grand Prize from the Rough Rider Art Show in Williston, ND. ‘Pony Express’ received the Leila Gardin Sawyer Memorial Award from the American Artists Professional League in NYC. ‘Wilderness Echoes’ received VIU/Grumbacher Gold Medallion Achievement Award in NYC.
