Coastside Jewish Community is an evolving congregation of approximately eighty member families, spiritually guided by our Maggid (spiritual leader), Jhos Singer, and Sheli'ach Tzibur (service leader), Julie Batz. CJC is an inclusive community of people from a wide range of Jewish and other backgrounds. In keeping with the style and spirit of the Coastside, we offer programs accessible to all. Our liturgy, music and ritual practice draw deeply from Judaism's rich spiritual heritage, while infusing tradition with new meaning. As a volunteer-led non-profit organization, we need your involvement and encourage lay leadership. Contact us Kabbalat Shabbat A bi-monthly Friday evening service includes traditional prayer, music and contemplation. Services are followed by an Oneg providing an opportunity to meet new people and mingle with old friends. Children are very welcome. The service is structured to be easy for everyone to participate, and many approaches to prayer are used, such as story telling, dramatic play, traditional liturgical song, and chanting. Our regular Shabbat schedule is: 2nd Friday: Community Kabbalat Shabbat Services at 7:30 PM 2nd (Full Shabbat) Saturday Shacharit Services at 10:00 AM 4th Friday: Community Kabbalat Shabbat Services at 7:30 PM Our special Shabbat calendar is here (PDF). Unless otherwise noted, our 2nd Friday and Saturday services are held at Holy Family Episcopal Church, 1590 S. Cabrillo Hwy, Half Moon Bay ( Directions ). Our 4th Friday night services are currently held at St. Edmund's in Pacifica ( Directions ). Please remember to bring a nosh to share as our onegs are normally potluck! High Holy Day Services One of the cornerstones of our faith, High Holy Days are a time to “make tshuvah”, to examine our lives, make amends with those we have wronged and return to our true values. CJC conducts full High Holy Day services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Living on the coast has also inspired us to observe the beautiful ritual of “Tashlich”, or “casting our sins into the sea”. Our CJC tradition includes a trip to the beach for this service, followed by a potluck lunch. This is a wonderful way to begin the New Year. Jewish Holiday Celebrations include Chanukah, Purim, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, and an annual Passover Seder.
