CoAxiaTM is a development stage, private, venture-backed medical device company in clinical trials with an innovative, catheter-based therapy for the treatment of cerebral ischemia, most notably: ischemic stroke. CoAxia's current business focus is demonstrating the safety and efficacy of its NeuroFlo catheter and making it a standard treatment option hundreds of thousands of stroke patients worldwide. In addition, CoAxia is in limited distribution of NeuroFlo to treat cerebral vasospasm, under an HDE market approval from the FDA. CoAxia holds several key patents on the concept and implementation of cerebral perfusion augmentation as well as numerous other patents relevant to various vascular disorders. CoAxia was founded in 1999 by Denise Barbut M.D., formerly the Director of the Stroke Research Program at Cornell University Medical College. Through the course of her research, observations during cardiac bypass surgeries led her to develop a concept of how cerebral perfusion could be increased in a new and unique way: partial aortic occlusion. She secured patents, further developed the concept and raised the initial investment to found the company. CoAxia remains focused on cerebral ischemia including stroke and cerebral vasospasm.
