On January 21, 2010, the Supreme Court issued a historic decision in Citizens United v. FEC that undercut one hundred years of precedent, and declared that corporations have the same political rights as individuals. Progressives United is founded in the wake of that disastrous decision to fight back by empowering Americans to take back their right to free speech and fair elections.
It seems unbelievable that in our country, in 2013, widespread hunger is a huge issue. In our own community, 22,000 people live below the poverty level. Hope lies in the newly expanded Flagstaff Family Food Center Food Bank and Kitchen. Founded in 1991, the center has served almost two million means to needy families. Now the need is even greater, considering Congressional (Republican) intent to make massive cuts in SNAP.
Democratic Perspective is brought to you by the Verde Valley Independent Democrats, a working group founded in 2011 to bring a broad spectrum of accurate information - moderate, progressive, liberal, and Democratic - to the general public.
