Description

Mayor Harris, who suffered from Merkel cell carcinoma, a form of cancer, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his home in Cole Camp at the age of 75 years. His friends have reflected on him as being a man of vision - during his two terms as mayor of Cole Camp, he was instrumental in improving the small town he loved. He was very involved in getting a new water tower and sewer system approved, getting a roadside park started at the edge of town, and other improvements to the community. He was active in many organizations, always looking for ways to help the community. He enjoyed playing golf and visiting with the business people and his many friends. After having received favorable reports on his health in February and March, he was very optimistic in being able to complete a third term as Mayor of Cole Camp. "RE" grew up in Benton County, graduating from Cole Camp High School. He and his wife Judy, had a counseling career in several communities, most recently in Las Vegas, Nevada and retired from that, returning home to Cole Camp in 2000. Flags throughout the community are being flown at half staff until after the memorial service, scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, June 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Cole Camp in his honor. This web site will be updated with further information during the next few weeks.
