In 2006, Colerain Township adopted new zoning regulations. The new sign requirements went into effect in July and the rest of the new code in August. All new permits will be issued in accordance with these revised requirements. The new sign code more closely controls the size and number of signs, with the goal of reducing visual clutter and driver distraction over time. Other sections of the zoning code have been strengthened or clarified to better meet the goals of public health, safety, and welfare. When a permit application proposes a project that doesn't meet zoning, the application is refused. If there are hardships which make it impossible to meet the zoning requirements, an applicant may appeal the refusal and request a variance. While tall grass, junk car, and property maintenance complaints aren't technically zoning issues, in Colerain, the zoning office inspects and processes the paperwork necessary to deal with them. We follow Ohio Revised Code requirements for tall grass complaints, which involve notifying everyone with an interest in the property and giving them a chance to cut the grass before we can have it cut and assess the cost to the owner's tax bill. (This can take nearly two months from start to finish, so please call as soon as you suspect a yard is being neglected.)
