Colonial Pantry opened its doors in June 1974 in a location on University Ave. in Urbana, Illinois. The owners are John P. Miller, Patrick J. Miller, and Connie S. Miller. A fourth owner passed away in November 2004. John had always wanted to run his own business and having a background in the grocery business, a convenience store was his choice. His father had a piece of property that he needed to rent on the University Avenue and so we all worked to ready it for the opening. Through the years we have tried different things such as our own warehouse, a full line grocery store, and a pizza franchise. We still have the pizza franchises but none of the other two. We even fried our own donuts for quite some time. Along the way we also began selling gasoline at some of our locations and now have fuel at nine of the eleven locations. It has been a rewarding but hard business to be in. We have met some wonderful people both as customers and employees.
