If you are an elementary teacher and you have found it hard to find a job, be would like to help you in two way. First of all, we will try to help you find a job in elementary. Secondly, and simultaneously, we will try to help you open doors in the area of Special Ed. GUIDE: Help you understand the lay of the land, offer guidance, and navigate you toward a successful career shift in education. 2. PLACE: Actually place you in a job, including being there for you all the way through to getting your teaching contract! 3. TRAIN: Help you select a Special Ed training program that is right for you. This program will help you every step of the way toward achieving the solid job security that comes from being licensed and experienced in an endorsement area that is in demand in Colorado and all over the USA. Teach-Con is a Special Ed Teacher Job Placement Program brought to you exclusively by Colorado Learning LLC. Does this sound like what you need right now? Want to learn more? Read on... THE PROBLEM: This step is being taken to help solve a critical problem in the field of education. The problem is, too many elementary teachers and too few special ed teachers. It is very hard to secure a position as a classroom teacher in an elementary school. Only the lucky few are able to do this, leaving thousands of unemployed licensed and experienced elementary endorsed teachers in Colorado (and throughout the USA). On the other hand, Schools have a growing need for special ed teachers. SOLUTION: It is the goal of Colorado Learning LLC to guide teachers to a solution to their problem of not being able to find a teaching job. We plan to provide a full solution to the problem of trying to get you from where you are now, point A (can't find a job, disillusioned, frustrated), to where you want to be, Point B (fully employed as a teacher and in an area of higher demand). SPECIAL ED: The area of high demand, in this case, is of course special ed. We want to help you become an experienced licensed special ed teacher. FOREVER?: You might ask, do I have to teach special ed forever? The answer is NO. Most teachers who move into the rewarding area of special ed stay. If you decide you don’t want this area long-term, you have every opportunity to transition elsewhere. The key is getting your break and getting hired in the first place. Once in a district, you are now an insider! This will give you every advantage and the inside-track when openings come up in elementary (if this is your preference). 30-DAY TURN-AROUND: It is our goal to be able to move you from point A to the point where you have been hired, all within a period of 30 days. If you are ready to make that move, we are ready to do our best to help. Out goal will be to have an employment contract in your hand within 30 days. FLEXIBILITY: In order to be successful in this program you will want to be flexible. Keep in mind that, as you initially enter this program, you are not YET in high demand, because you do not have the endorsement and experience schools like to see in a special ed teacher. This means that you will need to be willing to go to work for schools that others overlook. This will be a vital component of your success. If you don't feel like you are very flexible and ready to make some sacrifices, then please don't consider this program. This program is truly only for those who really want to be a teacher and are ready to do whatever it takes to get down this path. SCHOOL TYPES: We are either talking about a school that serves difficult students (e.g. At-risk students etc), or a rural scenario which is too far from major population centers to commute (meaning that you will have to relocate to another part of Colorado). Once again, ask yourself if this sounds like you. OUT-OF-STATE: If you are living outside of Colorado at this time, this program could work for you too! Step one is to apply for a Colorado Teaching license endorsed in elementary (go to CDE's web site at http://www.cde.state.co.us/ ). Getting this should be fairly easy if you are already licensed in elementary in another state. When your Colorado License arrives, contact us right away (303-832-3499). Remember, you will need to be ready willing and able to come to Colorado for interviews, and once accepted you will need to move to Colorado to start working (all at your expense). EVERYTHING?: Will Colorado Learning do everything for me? No, because this is a team effort. You must fill out certain forms and show up to certain interviews. We literally can not do everything for you. We are your teammate and your partner in this process. RESPONSIBLE: You are responsible for making sure that this path is the right path for you. Colorado Learning will endeavor to play the role of a 3rd party advisor. We will try to guide you to a positive change in your career. We are not able to control every aspect of your particular situation, thus we will depend on you to participate actively and earnestly in all phases of the process. If you are not ready for this level of hands-on activity or accountability for your own destiny, this may not be the right route for you to take. COLLEGE CREDIT : The training you receive will give you college credit and possibly credit toward a master’s degree in education (depending upon the program you select). Keep in mind that, money that goes toward a master’s in education will, over time, pay for itself many times over due to pay increases resulting from your heightened education level. FINANCIAL AID: The training you are given during this year will cost money just like any other higher education scenario. This cost can be paid by you directly during the year, or via grants (if you can find them), or more likely via financial aid loans. In many cases, aid loans can pay for the whole program, along with your books, and even provide some extra spending money. Aid would ordinarily be applied for via your training institution. DEADLINE: The short answer is that there is no deadline. The long answer looks like this: The deadline for getting your application in to Colorado Learning for this route is September 1st. If you get it in by that date, we will still have four weeks to try to line up a job. If it is after this date, we may still accept your application, but it will be more difficult to line you up with a job for this school year. The fact of the matter is, we usually accept applications Year-round. If this sounds like a good direction for you to go, please DO NOT wait any longer. Waiting will only hurt your chances of success and decrease your income for the year. Apply early so that we can get all this squared away and you can enjoy your summer. IS SPEC ED FOR YOU?: Most special ed teachers would never want anything else for themselves. One of the reasons for this is that, typically special ed teachers don’t have the pressures of managing whole classrooms or the student loads. Also special ed teachers are able to see often dramatic individual progress. Finally, since special ed teachers are typically helping students who are lagging behind the rest of the class, they are able to teach a more wide range of subject areas which keeps things interesting and helps avoid a teacher’s biggest enemy - burnout. If you are not already excited about switching over to teaching special ed, we recommend that you arrange with your local school to spend some time observing with a special ed teacher or two. This should give you a better idea of what this work is like. Generally special ed is an opportunity to help the students who are a little behind the rest. It is very rewarding and many feel that it is less stressful than traditional classroom teaching. THIS PROGRAM IS FOR YOU IF: You want to teach, but have not found it easy to navigate the path. You need training, or a license, or for a school to believe in you and hire you. For whatever reason, you have not been able to get a good long-term teaching contract. You have not yet found your home in the field of education. You have found it hard to get much response from schools, you feel that job hunting is a frustrating and isolating experience; you would find it refreshing to work with an organization that is service oriented and dedicated to helping teachers find jobs. If this sounds like you, we want to try to help send your career in an exciting new direction. YOU QUALIFY FOR THIS PROGRAM IF: You have a current Colorado Teacher’s license endorsed in Elementary. You will also get on-the-job training (and your special ed endorsement) through the Alternative Licensure Program (or through the S.E.E. program if you already have a license). 5. ENDORSEMENT: At the end of only one school year, you will have completed the program and earned a Colorado Teaching license endorsed in Special Ed.
