Description

Founded in 1989, the Colorado Prevention Center (CPC) is a not-for-profit medical research and disease prevention center. It is affiliated with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Denver Health Medical Center. Its primary mission is to promote prevention of cardiovascular diseases through clinical trials and educational initiatives. CPC is internationally recognized for its expertise in clinical trials and has conducted complete clinical trial management for a variety of sponsors and investigators. The CPC designs, conducts and coordinates research studies for disease prevention and therapeutic intervention, as well as conducts community health screening programs, provides medical treatment in the context of clinical studies, and sponsors community medical education programs. A major CPC research activity over the past 10 years has been the Appropriate Blood Pressure Control in Diabetes (ABCD) Trial. The large trial has as its primary purpose to evaluate the role of intensive versus moderate blood pressure lowering in preventing the complications of diabetes. The study will continue until 2003 and will further evaluate the benefits of intensive lowering of blood pressure in these patients.
