Description
Three words: Ramon De Leon . Dude knows how to grab your attention. Ramon was the second keynote speaker on Wednesday morning, and I swear I almost yelled out a “Hallelujah” during his presentation about humanizing your brand . He wants us to care more about our customers than our competitors do. He wants us to show our customers some love. And ask yourself: How did we make Mom feel? I had the pleasure of getting to chat with Ramon during a networking dinner that evening, and he’s one of the most genuine people I have ever met. If you don’t like Ramon, then you probably have a cold, dead heart.
Just because you are communicating with folks on a digital medium, you aren’t off the hook for being a decent human being and providing solid customer service. Wait, not “just because”; “especially because”. Everyone knows that any jerk with a Yelp, Google+ or social media account can eviscerate a brand online. And while I’d like to think my feedback was been a bit more constructive and nicely put than that, any brand should be concerned about their reputation, and the level of service that they are providing in such a public forum.
Agile was established by a group of software developers on a quest to solve a common industry premise of the time: THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY TO WRITE GOOD SOFTWARE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS. What they created for us was the concise and subtly powerful Manifesto for Agile Software Development.
Besides her passion to create healthy food in unique and inviting surroundings, she always enforced the highest standard of service. As a server, I never thought the valuable customer service skills I learned would later benefit me as a web developer. Managing my time, being attentive, communicative, and the continuous desire to learn are all skills that make a difference in providing excellent customer service.
I want this guy to learn how to code. A lot. Know why? Because he has people skills. He has worked with the General Public – with parents and their children, for crying out loud. He’s got a service orientation, knows how to talk with and persuade people, he’s charming, and he’s used to coming up with unique solutions to peculiar and hard problems. And as an employer of developers, that’s what I want.
