Description
Commonwealth Academy first opened its doors in the fall of 1997 in Fairfax County with just a handful of students. The school was born from the deep commitment and love of parents for their children, and their firm belief that regardless of learning differences, their children could be successful if the proper accommodations were available. By the spring of 2002, enrollment had grown to 37 students, and plans were made to move the school to its present location in the Del Ray community of Alexandria. The following fall, the then-new Head of School Susan Johnson opened the doors to welcome new and returning students to a bright, newly renovated 15,000 square foot facility that affords ample space for 100 students. Since then, enrollment has climbed steadily to its current level of more than 90 students and is well poised for continued growth.
