Community Outreach Program for the Deaf - New Mexico was established in 1978 by members of the New Mexico area Deaf community. Our initial focus was providing vocational and interpretation services for the Deaf, but since our founding, we have expanded to provide additional services to both the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. In 1982, we joined forces with Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona in New Mexico and its Community Outreach Program for the Deaf to better provide interpreting, telephone relay, and counseling services.

Community Outreach Program for the Deaf - New Mexico contracts with interpreters as either full time staff or independent contractors. Because we employ staff interpreters that are available on a full time basis, we provide interpreters for any last minute assignments that clients frequently request. Full time schedulers are assigned to coordinate client requests. Therefore, clients can easily contact an experienced scheduler by phone, website, or email at any time.

Community Outreach Program for the Deaf - New Mexico stays current on compliance regulations related to ADA Legislation, state regulations for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Interpreter Certification Board. Through in-house legal counsel, we provide consistent professional interpreting services to satisfy the requirements of the national and state laws.

Community Outreach Program for the Deaf - New Mexico offers many types of client and vocational services, such as Independent Living Skills, Education Support, Tutoring, Orientation and Mobility Training, Vocational Evaluation and Situational Assessment, Orientation and Adjustment to Disability. In addition, COPD-NM offers a program of services for individuals who are Deaf Blind, providing Support Service Providers.
