When the state of Indiana was settled, the land was originally sold by the government to the first settlers. The record of these sales is available in the old tract books that were maintained at the land offices throughout the state. Also, most county recorder offices have a book of the original land entries for their county. These books were not indexed and are difficult to read. As an ongoing project, CompuGen Systems has been indexing these records for several years. OVER 50,000 RECORDS HAVE BEEN INDEXED!! These land records are dated 1801-1860 and are from the following counties: Adams, Allen, Bartholomew, Blackford, Brown, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Decatur, Dekalb, Delaware, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Huntington, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Kosciusko, Lawrence, Madison, Monroe, Noble, Ohio, Orange, Ripley, Scott, Steuben, Switzerland, Union, Washington, Wayne, Wells and Whitley. CompuGen Systems provides printed reports listing the land entries on a surname basis. This service is available for anyone researching a particular family surname. The search reports list the following information for each land entry: Meridian Number, Township Number, Range Number, Section Number, Description of Parcel, Acres, Land Type, Joint Ownership, Name of Purchaser, Residence of Purchaser, Date, Receipt Number, Land District, Township and County. In some cases not all of this information is available or applicable.
