--- Jesus in John 15:12 President George W. Bush's speech to the nation last week was forceful, clear, even eloquent. He talked quietly, but he talked tough. His steely resolve against terrorism has seemed to generate unity - a uniform desire among politicians and the public to mete out violence in retribution for the attack of Sept. 11, a unity rarely seen in this country of free expression. But the moment you meet Friends, you fall through the looking-glass.

In addition, completely volunteer Rotarian Action Groups have organized spontaneously around the world to focus their efforts on specific concerns including (but certainly not limited to) Avoidable Blindness, Aids, Blood Donation, Disaster Preparedness and Assistance, Hunger and Malnutrition, Malaria, Microcredit, Multiple Sclerosis, Polio Survivor and PPS, and Population Growth and Sustainable Development.

Growing from a perceived desire for friendship and fellowship along with a need to promote mutual business interests since 1905, within a decade Rotarians recognised their unique ability to provide service to those less fortunate in their own communities.

It is indeed difficult to find a location anywhere where Rotarians have not been making a significant difference for decades in providing for the less fortunate, with hundreds of thousands of individual club and district projects being undertaken and accomplished every year. Each project performed under the banner of Rotary is designed to improve the quality of life and the environment, to provide infrastructure development that is of permanent value, or in some other way to meet a human need and to help people - without any cost to the beneficiaries.
