Introduction During the early years of our modern computer era, very few standards and protocols existed between various manufacturers. However, as time went on and computer technology continued to improve and become more widespread, it became apparent that standards would be necessary to ensure compatibility. This was especially true with regard to networks, and networking technology.

ComTest is happy to announce that it has begun representing a local software and systems developer, Decision Research Corporation, in order to help our customers meet all of their technology needs. Decision Research Corporation is a Honolulu based software developer and IT consulting company. The company was founded in 1971 and currently has 55 employees in offices in Hawaii and in Massachusetts.

Narrowband ISDN is further classified into two categories, the Basic Rate Interface (BRI) or the Primary Rate Interface (PRI). The Basic Rate Interface uses standard twisted pair telephone lines, and provides two B (or Bearer) channels and a D (or Delta) channel. The B channels are 64kbps each and the D channel is 16kbps. This provides a total aggregate bandwith of 144kbps, of which 128kbps is available for actual data. The B channels are used to carry the actual information, whether it be voice, data or video, and the D channel is provided for control signaling.

One of the benefits of inverse multiplexing, is its ability to make possible Transparent LAN Service using existing T1 circuits. A service provider as a convenience can offer transparent LAN services to its customers. Customers who need to interconnect various locations at native LAN speeds, but who do not have experience with WAN products or protocols, can be offered this service. The service provider can accomplish this by installing and maintaining inverse multiplexers at the customer’s sites and then scale the bandwidth to their needs.
