For over 40 years, Concern for Independent Living has been helping people achieve their goals of greater independence, housing stability, and increased pride in their accomplishments. Our agency and its programs have been accredited by CARF, honored with National Awards for Housing Excellence, and has recently received the Benefactor’ Award from the American Institute of Architects on Long Island, the Smart Growth Award from Vision Long Island, the first Visionary Award from NAMI-NYS and was named 2012 Agency of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers Suffolk Division.
Jim Mutton will be stepping into the role of Director of NYC Operations at Concern for Independent Living, Inc. Formerly Director of Residential Services at Project Renewal, Mutton has many years of experience in developing and operating mental health housing in the NYC region and has a strong background working with ACL and other advocacy organizations. Mutton served as consultant and Interim Director for Concern’s MacDougal Street Apartments for several months prior to his appointment as Director of NYC Operations.

The INN addresses hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing and supportive services in a dignified and respectful manner to low-income wage earners, homeless and hungry individuals. The Hempstead-headquartered nonprofit is one of the largest human service agencies of its kind on Long Island. It consists of 16 soup kitchens in 22 locations, three homeless shelters, a home for homeless veterans, and a Long-Term Housing Program which provides housing to 25 formerly homeless families.
Concern’s mission is to provide housing and services that enrich lives and strengthen communities. The Medford-headquartered organization develops high quality housing and a provision of services, including supportive services and vocational opportunities that help people thrive in the communities of their choice. Concern currently serves more than 800 low-income individuals and families, and is the largest non-profit provider of supportive housing on Long Island, managing over 220 sites throughout Suffolk County and Brooklyn.
