Description

You only need to get an estimate from your collision repair facility of your choosing. Prior to this estimate, inquire with your insurance company if they will be estimating the damage first. If they are, ask them to provide this estimate to the facility of your choice. The repair facility will take it from there: making sure your car is properly repaired and if needed, sending supplemental damage reports to your insurance company. Your collision repair facility is responsible for the completion and satisfaction of your repairs. Make sure you are offered some type of warranty before signing to an authorization to have repairs started.

This a situation that most of us are not familiar with. It is important for everyone to know that when it comes to being involved in a collision, you can take your vehicle to the repair facility of your choice. You do have a choice! It is also important to know how the process works and how to handle the situation even if the collision is not being handled by an insurance company. Our goal is to provide you with the information that you may not be aware of that is helpful to you in this situation. Call the police to the scene of the collision. If you’re injured, it’s important that you get treatment immediately. Even if there doesn’t appear to be any damage to your vehicle, a police report will verify that you and the other parties were involved in a collision. It is wise to keep an easily accessible collision reference sheet in your vehicle at all times, such as in your glove compartment. Contact your insurance company as soon as possible after the collision – check your policy.
