Description
More than 60 years ago Conco Companies was built on Quality Products and Customer Service, and we continue to work to provide the best Customer Service and Quality Products in Southwest Missouri. We have two quarries to serve you, Willard and Galloway. Both quarries have been located on high-quality limestone. Both quarries are working out of Burlington Limestone formations, providing products that have low chert. Both quarries have trained Quality Control personnel on staff.
Willard’s plant has been built to provide the flexibility needed to provide any commercial, state or concrete aggregate needs. It is able to provide a clean fraction product or blended product, depending on your needs.
In the years just after World War II, the ready-mixed concrete industry was just beginning to come into its own. Ralph Reed and his stepson, Tom Baird, believed that this was a business that held great promise for the future. After researching several cities, they came to the conclusion that Springfield, Missouri was a city that would grow significantly in the years to come. Thus, Concrete Company of Springfield was founded in 1947 as a small family-owned ready-mix operation with four trucks and a total of seven employees. Reed and Baird were pretty good prognosticators.
In 1958, the company purchased Garrett Construction Company, a larger competitor, thus becoming the major ready-mix producer in Springfield. Garrett was also in the quarry business, and this became Conco Quarries, a wholly-owned subsidiary which supplies crushed stone products to the ready-mix operations, as well as to the overall market. In 1964, quarry operations were moved to the present site, which now encompasses over 1000 acres and has reserves of perhaps 100 years.
The FSA tests the canine/handler team on five elements: obedience, agility, directional control, bark alert and rubble search for two buried live victims. All teams complete the first four elements, then do the rubble search portion. Once the team passes the FSA, they have six months to pass the FEMA Certification Evaluation, which consists entirely of rubble search for multiple victims. This site is most often utilized by members of Nebraska Task Force 1, headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as Missouri Task Force 1, headquartered in Columbia, Missouri.
