Description

Consolidated Instrument and Avionics Co. opened its doors in 1946 at historic Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, NJ. About the same time, a young man recruited by SAS came to the United States to train in autopilot systems at the Bendix Corporation, also at Teterboro. Before this, as a member of the Norwegian Underground during WWII, he escaped Nazi-controlled Norway and enlisted in the Royal Norwegian Airforce stationed at Croyden, UK. His desire to work in aviation being awakened while enlisted in the Royal Norwegian Air force and stationed in England during WWII. It was then that O.B. Johannessen, affectionately called OBJ, realized his future would be a career in aviation. Soon after his training, OBJ and Consolidated Instrument Co. became forever linked when he began his employment there in 1949. In time, OBJ would buy out his partners and become sole owner of the company. Today, Consolidated Instrument Co. remains one of the few family owned and operated repair stations around the world.
