I would like to open this first message as your President by saying thank you to the City of Duarte, our Contract Cities staff, seminar sponsors, guests and all our members for their help and participation in the 50th Annual Municipal Seminar. Exploring Solutions to Preserve Our Cities was a success among all members and guests in attendance at the seminar. Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend and participate in such a wonderful event. Please look for photos and a re-cap of the Municipal Seminar in this issue of the Connection. At the core of our association is the dedication of our member cities and our committee chairs and officers. We are now beginning to seat the new Executive Board for the 2009/2010 administrative year and will have them in place before the end of April. Vice President Ron Beilke and Secretary/Treasurer John Noguez are dedicated to continuing the growth of the California Contract Cities Association and continue moving this great association forward into our future. This organization is a product of the collective hard work of the past presidents, officers and members who have continued to forge ahead while protecting the philosophy of contracting that birthed the Contract Cities over 50 years ago. Our Past President Frank V. Zerunyan has represented the Contract Cities very well through a difficult time, and has propelled our association forward by leaps and bounds during the 2008/2009 administrative year. Thank you, Frank for your hard work and dedication. I am excited to continue to work closely with past president Zerunyan in the year ahead. As we finalize the assembly of the new Executive Board and Committee Chairs for the 2009/2010 year I will continue to refine my vision for our association in the coming year. R and R; Revenues and Relationships, will be the fuel that propels us in 2009/2010. Protecting our local revenues from state raids and providing viable revenue resources to our member cities are on the front end of this message. Strengthening the bonds of our existing relationships with the Independent Cities and League of California Cities Associations while forging new ones with other municipal associations, finance officers groups, city managers groups, counties and prospective member cities all across this great state of ours will provide the second R in this two part plan. Building upon our close relationships with the Governor’s office, our legislative partners in Sacramento and county officials will provide further bolstering of this focus on relationships. While the services and programs that we have become accustomed to will continue, we will also be looking for new and innovative ways to Explore Solutions for our Cities as we move forward. It is my desire to not stay stagnant, but to always be growing and learning without taking away from what we already do so well. I am committed to providing the dedication and leadership that has become the standard set by the president’s that have gone before me. The City of Duarte and the my city council are committed in full support as I pledge to be active and present in all arenas and issues of concern to our member cities. Lastly, I am encouraged by the support and confidence you have placed in me and take this office and responsibility with the utmost of honor and without reservation. As a combined force of dedicated member cities and partners we can continue to bring the greatest municipal services effectively and efficiently to our communities. Sincerely,
