MEDIA RELEASE The seventh annual Cookie Chaser 5k race and 2k fun run/walk will be held on April 24, 2010 at Riverton City Park (12765 S. 1400 W.). This fundraising event is sponsored by the Oquirrh Service Unit, and all proceeds will go to Girl Scouts of Utah. Girl Scouts of Utah will use the money for activities for girls all over the state to help them gain values and skills and help them grow strong, like it has for over 80 years. The Cookie Chaser is designed to be a fun event for everyone: girls, boys, women and men. The longer race (5k or 3.1 miles) will be a competitive run and Girl Scout cookies will be rewarded to the top finishers in each age category. This year, Mr. Thin Mint and Mrs. Samoa Cookie will be making a special appearance. Can you beat the Cookies? They're ready to make you chase them. And we'll have special rewards for any men who can beat Mr. Thin Mint and any ladies who can beat Mrs. Samoa. Don't let the names fool you, these are some fast Cookies. The shorter race (2k or 1.2 miles) is designed to be fun for children, scout troops, and families. The top finishers in each race will receive trophies and the top five finishers in each age group will receive ribbons. Runners, walkers and joggers are all encouraged to participate. As you may already know, Girl Scouts of Utah has been a preeminent organization dedicated to girls since 1920. Under the umbrella of the Girl Scouts of the USA, our programs and activities are designed to provide the Girl Scouting opportunity for Every Girl, Everywhere. With personal growth and development of self as the foundation to our program, our girls grow strong and become resourceful citizens in their respective communities and indeed the world. We reinforce our teachings through a combination of traditional and innovative activities. While this is exciting information about a local Girl Scout event, it is not an official Girl Scouts of Utah release. Awards: Girl Scout Cookies and awards to the top 3 men and women in the each race. Special awards to the top Girl Scout and Girl Scout leader in each race. Special awards to any man who can beat Mr. Thin Mint Cookies and to any lady who can beat Mrs. Samoa Cookie. Girl Scout Cookies to the top finishers in each age group in the 5K. We met our fundraising goal, plus we had enough money to purchase Casper for Trefoil Ranch, a Girl Scout camp located in Provo Canyon. Ashlyn, Cadette Girl Scout and daughter of race director Dianna Wright, searched far and wide for the perfect horse to send to camp. She spoke with horse owners and visited horses from Lindon, Utah to Jerome, Idaho. The perfect horse needed to be a gentle gelding (male) between the ages of 10 and 20 and in good health. We found Casper in Idaho. His family was moving to Wyoming and needed to sell him. The boys that had been riding him were sad to see him go, but they were thrilled to learn that he would be going to Girl Scout camp and teaching other kids to ride. Finding Casper is part of Ashlyn's Girl Scout Silver Award project.
