Description
Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival at UCCS 2010! Visit the Official festival website for a full schedule of events. Due to the phenomenal success of last year's Cool Science Carnival at UCCS , we have decided to expand this annual fall event into a full-blown science festival like several others around the country. Our new partners in this endeavor are the Colorado Springs Science Center Project (CSSCP) , the UCCS Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education (CSTEME) , and Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS) . Our long range vision is for a multi-day, multi-venue festival with a wide variety of exciting science and engineering events for all ages, but we'll build up to that gradually over the next couple of years. For this year the festival will be primarily a one day event on Saturday September 18th from 9 AM to 4 PM, highlighted by Cool Science's ever-popular live science demonstration shows and Hands-on Science Carnival for kids (targeting 2nd-8th grades, but always fun for all). We will also add a speaker series, workshops, presentations, performances and laboratory tours mostly for the high school and older crowd. Most of the events will take place in (or around) the University Center and the new Science and Engineering Building. We are expecting more than 5,000 attendees for the day. *** Just announced *** Our very special guest for the morning science demonstration show will be science guy Steve Spangler , the former Denver science teacher and Emmy award-winning TV personality best known for making the Diet Coke and Mentos Geyser a national craze, and for his regular appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show (check the festival website for the exact time and place.) Also be sure to experience Cool Science one week earlier at What If: A Festival of Creativity & Innovation , where we will be hosting our own Colorado Springs CoOL Iron Science Teacher Competition . Come see your teacher create cool science demonstrations and activities using everyday household items. (if you are a teacher or other science professional and would like to participate in the fun, send an email to marc@coolscience.org ). *** We need volunteers to help with the carnival and other activities *** Find out more about how you can help .
