Description

The business that is now known as Cooperative Mutual Insurance Company was formed originally by seven cooperatives in Columbus, NE, in 1935. Our name at that time was Industries Mutual Insurance Company, and the purpose of the company was to provide affordable property insurance for cooperatives. In order to meet other insurance needs of the members, Industries Mutual Insurance Agency was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1936. In 1968, the names of the company and agency were changed to Cooperative Mutual Insurance Company and Cooperative Insurance Agency of Nebraska, Inc., respectively. In 1993, Cooperative Mutual Insurance Company converted from a property only insurance carrier to a multiple lines commercial carrier. The company today provides a full range of commercial property and casualty insurance products to farmer-owned cooperatives in six midwestern states.
