The City of Coppell has established a pro-business attitude to encourage the development of high-quality business and corporate relocation projects. The Coppell Chamber of Commerce and the City of Coppell both work to strengthen the economic health of and pride in our community. City Recognized by NAIOP The city of Coppell was recently recognized with two prestigious awards. NAIOP conducted a survey of its members on their subjective perceptions on how receptive local municipalities are to new industrial and office developments, and surveyed cities on their development processes and costs. The City of Coppell was awarded First Place for being “Most Open to Business” and came in a close second on “Timing for Building Permits.” The city also ranked well in the areas of Economic Development Incentives Available and Development Costs. Pro-Business City Council A responsible City Council makes business and industry welcome by working with them on all facets of their location or relocation in the city. Coppell was the first city in Texas to approve the issuance of bonds for a Public Improvement District. Expedient Permit Process City departments work closely with business and industry to expedite procurement of building and other required city permits. The goal is to become a partner in future city growth Tax Abatement Policy Coppell has targeted several specific types of business that are ideally suited with the future development of the community. To help make Coppell more attractive to those targeted businesses, the City offers an aggressive tax abatement policy that helps offset the cost of relocation. The policy provides for a variable abatement rate based on the company investment in the community. Freeport Tax Exemption The freeport tax exemption is also known as a "goods in transit" exemption. This policy allows tangible business inventory to be exempt from business and property taxes if the goods or merchandise are purchased in Texas or imported from outside Texas to be assembled, stored, manufactured, processed or fabricated in their Coppell facilities, and then shipped outside of Texas within 175 days. Development Grant For Sales Tax Rebate The city of Coppell offers an economic development grant for sales tax rebate. The amount of the grant and the length of time are determined on a case by case basis. Development Fee Rebate Policy The city of Coppell considers a rebate of company development fees on a case by case basis.
