About Coptech - A DVD And CD Duplication Company Coptech West was founded in 1991 as a magnetic tape duplicator, serving the needs of the large system software community. In the early nineties, software for mainframes, large UNIX systems and proprietary mini-computers was delivered on magnetic tape, and the tape duplication market was under-served. Frank Veloz, the President and founder of Coptech West, recognized the opportunity presented by that market, and Coptech was born.Because of this legacy, Coptech developed a philosophy that has served it well up to today. First, because there were many physical and logical tape formats, Coptech as an entity had to become entirely comfortable working with whatever the customer supplied, no matter how obscure the format. Also, because of the huge number of potential variations in tape formats and drives, Coptech became well known as THE experts on the subject of media duplication. It was the very complexity and difficulty of duplicating these formats that allowed Coptech to not only grow, but to thrive. Indeed, other duplicators all over the US and Canada have relied on Coptech to solve the duplication and conversion issues they did not have the expertise to solve. It was through this process that Coptech became known as "The Duplicator's Duplicator".Then, in 1994, Sun Microsystems, the largest provider of large systems and the driving force behind the tape duplication marketplace, announced they would no longer ship any of their software products on tape cartridges of any kind. They were ONLY going to ship CD-ROMs. Once again, Coptech had to confront large technical challenges and develop processes to solve brand new problems. Over the next two years we helped over 300 software companies convert their products to CD-ROM distributions that would work correctly on as many as 60 different platforms.
