At Coton Colors, we are passionate about designing & producing a full line of hand-painted products, with an emphasis on personalization. In our studios & abroad, we create a product line that delivers an imaginative array of hand-painted items that are popular sellers in store & catalogs throughout the country. Coton Colors is owned & operated by Laura Johnson. As an artist, Laura is known for her use of vibrant colors, whimsical patterns & fanciful script. Laura is a native Floridian, born & raised in Miami. Her love of art began as a child while experimenting with work in all mediums including drawing, painting & pottery. She resides in Tallahassee, Florida with her husband & three daughters who continue to be the inspiration for much of her work. Laura began the business in 1989. She hand-painted & sold children's clothing at retail shows around the South East with her mother & sister alongside. Hand-dying & painting cotton dresses was just the beginning. In 1995, as she painted personalized plates as gifts for her nieces, the idea for expansion clearly emerged. The personalized plates seemed to be the perfect medium to combine her unique images & whimsical script. The popularity of these plates amongst her friends kept her busy painting & firing pottery in her garage. In July of 1997, she premiered the hand-painted pottery at her first wholesale tradeshow in Atlanta.
