Valley Vista Care Corporation, (VVCC), is committed to caring for the elderly and persons with disabilities in a variety of settings and programs. At the present, VVCC only has facilities and programs in the state of Idaho. VVCC has two (2) skilled nursing centers, five (5) assisted living facilities, two (2) public transportation agencies, a mental health clinic where counseling is available to children and adults, an adult day care program, community based services that includes providing congregate and home delivered meals to seniors or the disabled in Benewah and the lower part of Kootenai counties. Installing and monitoring of emergency response devices through Life Line, and the managing member to a Personal Care Services agency. VVCC’s corporate office is located in St. Maries and has approximately 300 employees throughout the state.As a youngster Everett Anderson remembers hearing his parents say that a corner of their 40 acres would be a good location for an ‘old folk’s home’ because of its beautiful view of the mountains and the St. Maries River valley. In 1968, Mr. Anderson heard Ralph Gutherie, a Spokane developer, was interested in building a care center in St. Maries. Mr. Gutherie bought 14 lots (one block) from Mr. Anderson and built Valley Vista Convalescent Home. The 49 bed facility met the needs of the community at that time but as time went on it became too small and lacked professional management. Eventually the community became concerned about the future of the care center and began searching for funds to purchase the facility and make it community owned.A committee was formed to organize a ‘Buy Valley Vista’ campaign. Initially the committee wanted to form a non-profit organization and buy the facility, making it a community owned facility. After considering all their alternatives they decided they needed help with buying it. They approached Coeur d’Alene Homes, a Lutheran senior housing provider, who agreed to join them in the purchase but required the community of St. Maries to raise $60,000 to assist with the purchase and much needed improvements. Within three months the community raised more than $100,000, giving them extra money to purchase adjoining ground for future expansion. Coeur d’Alene Homes completed the transaction to acquire Valley Vista Convalescent Home.
