February 7, 2009 Greece road project honored Meaghan M. McDermott Staff writer The state Department of Transportation's reconstruction of Route 104 in Greece has been named a Project of the Year by the Monroe County/Genesee Valley Branch of the American Public Works Association. The $34 million project to widen and rebuild Route 104, also known as West Ridge Road, between Elmgrove Road and Route 390 began in November 2004 and was completed in October last year. The award for Project of the Year in the Greater than $10 million category was given to representatives from DOT's Region 4 Rochester Office, prime contractor Crane-Hogan Structural Systems, Incorporated, the design consultant Stantec, and the Greece Chamber of Commerce during a Jan. 29 banquet. "The New York State Department of Transportation has worked long and hard to earn a reputation for being a national leader in providing safe, reliable and environmentally sound transportation services and expertise," DOT Commissioner Astrid Glynn said in a written statement. "It is truly an honor to be recognized by the American Public Works Association and I congratulate and applaud the men and women of the NYSDOT team who work diligently to deliver our Capital Construction Program each year," Glynn said. Jodie Perry, president of the Greece Chamber of Commerce, said it was a honor to be co-recipient of the award. "We were very excited about it," she said. "We had a committee that worked for seven years to make sure communication lines between contractors, government officials and business owners stayed open. It was a big project but having that communication there made it easier for businesses."
