Description
Most Crane roller cams (mechanical and hydraulic) are manufactured from carburized 8620 alloy steel billet cores that have a superior surface (and subsurface) durability that prevents spalling (particles flaking --typically 60° down from the nose of the cam) that can be found on 5150 alloy and other cam cores. Spalling will inhibit the lifter's travel on the cam lobe and affect valve train performance and reliability. Another advantage of the carburized 8620 core is improved ductility due to case hardening so camshafts won't "snap" like more brittle cores.
Crane also manufactures roller cams from 9310 alloy billet for special applications where exceptionally high valve spring pressures are employed. The 9310 alloy has a higher nickel content and is more ductile —at no sacrifice of surface strength.
Crane manufactures premium quality CNC-machined extruded aluminum billet roller rocker arms for shaft-mount applications, including the Ford “FE,” Chrysler small block “LA,” and big block “B” wedge engines. They include both OEM and aftermarket cylinder heads. They include precision-machined hardened steel shafts, anodized aluminum billet rocker arms with heat-treated steel roller tips, and all required mounting hardware. Some applications are offered with offset designs, as well as increased rocker arm ratios.
