In May of 1997, my daughter, Aneesa, was born. I was pretty overwhelmed as a first-time mommy and had little time to sew for her. I made the decision to leave my job as an 8th grade teacher to stay at home with Aneesa and pursue my Master's degree in Computer Technology. In October of 1997, I attended the State Fair of Texas and saw the winning entries in smocking. I fell in love! I started searching for the name, the teachers, the stores. It was a hunt! I could not find anything in the phone books to help me out. I eventually posted on a board at ParentsPlace.com. A reader, Carrie, answered my posts and directed me to a local store in Fort Worth, Berry Patch Fabrics. Carrie and I ended up being super friends! We share smocking ideas and shopping trips and our daughters almost share a birthday! I ended up learning to smock at the Berry Patch. And I was hooked! I now enjoy smocking for Aneesa and her younger sister, Amara, who joined us in May 1999.
