After pastoring for many years I am reminded of some of the thought cycles I have been through while trying to build the Kingdom and keep the bank account full enough to pay the bills. One of the biggest thoughts about online giving is, “I would like to offer the option for my congregation to give online, but I am afraid that the processing fees that are associated with this new option will take valuable money away from the church”. This is a valid worry. After all, if we can barely pay the bills now and there are still staff members needed, then how do I offer this tool and make the numbers work at the end of the month? I want you to think for a minute about the pattern of your “givers” in your church. Honestly, how many are tithers and how many are tippers? While pastoring I found that less than 10% of people actually tithe. This means they pay their full tithe whether they are in church or not that week. Most folks are “tippers”. Tippers are those that only give when they are in church and it is usually a set amount of money. Some popular amounts we received from tippers while I was a pastor were $5, $20, $50, and $100.
