Imagine, for a minute, that you are a traveler determined to pursue a particular route and your path comes to the edge of such a ravine. From where you stand you can see that the road continues on the other side. You gaze into the depths, assessing the challenges you face. You now have decisions to make: go down into the chasm to climb the opposite side, go around it if you can, or quit and go home. Business, like life, is a series of such realities. We are constantly negotiating, circumventing or rethinking the challenges ahead. In most cases there are several appropriate solutions for dealing with the chasm. Here lies the problem. Selecting a course of action demands change, maybe a lot. Most of us naturally resist change, we teeter on the edge, stuck. So our chasm gets deeper and wider simply because we fail to engage. Action is as big a part of an appropriate solution as the actual solution itself.
