Serving as guide and facilitator, Chef Lauren Browning will engage participants in a dynamic 3-hour group cooking class with an emphasis on team building. Trained at The Culinary Institute of America, and with a background in Organizational Development from Vanderbilt, Lauren delights in bringing the world of theory to bear on real team building application in the kitchen. She is also a Meyers Briggs Type Indicator ® Qualified Professional and draws upon this training as well. Events are typically held in the state-of-the-art, fully equipped Sur La Table kitchen in River Oaks, which can accommodate up to 24 people. Other venues may be discussed though. As part of the team building experience, participants receive recipe packets, enjoy interactive demonstrations by the chef, and prepare a delicious menu within smaller teams. The hands-on cooking element includes the spirited “Culinary Challenge, ” which inevitably provides a lively showcase for observing the presence or absence of a unified team. At the conclusion of an event, teams celebrate by eating their creations, and discussing what has been learned in the kitchen, and what can be applied to the workplace. Group members not only experience camaraderie with co-workers amongst wonderful sights, smells, and tastes, they also learn the following leadership and team building concepts: • Resourcefulness and Creativity • Appreciating and Utilizing Individual and Group Strengths • Communication Skills • Collaboration and Cooperation For groups interested in discovering and understanding their individual personality preferences in the context of their fellow teammates ’ preferences, a brief exercise may be incorporated into the event, resulting in a more beneficial time of team building.
