Fannie Mae committed to give out refunds to its servicing partners whenever they pass on homeowners who are lagging on their mortgage payments for counseling on the HOPE Hotline. This is part of its continuing commitment to support borrowers, who are threatened with foreclosure. Fannie Mae Vice President for Credit Loss Management and Quality Assurance Jason Allnutt said that they are doing everything they can to help troubled homeowners. Fannie Mae has been conducting early intervention and delinquency counseling. Allnutt added that independent counseling agencies can help by assisting servicers in finding more ways to avoid foreclosure. The toll free HOPE Hotline provides mortgage counseling in multiple languages and is available 24 hours a day. Backed by the HOPE NOW Alliance, Treasury Secretary Paulson and Housing Secretary Jackson made public the creation of the hotline back in October. The Alliance was set-up to make a synchronized and unified plan to help as many homeowners as possible all over the country.
