With a background in marine engineering and boat racing, as well as experience with Mercruiser sales and repair, Joe had a thorough understanding of one of racers' and weekend performance boaters' major needs: stronger, better-engineered, better-designed, better-built and better-looking, water-cooled stainless-steel headers.Starting in 1984 with a 50 x 50 steel-shed manufacturing facility, and a 30-year-old house trailer serving as a combined office and design center, Joe and his fledgling company -- Custom Marine Inc. -- quickly caught the attention of the offshore-racing community by offering custom designed headers and tailpipes that offered superior performance and quality to meet their high-performance needs.
