Description
Q. What is Central Station Monitoring? A. At the Custom Security Central Station, our highly trained, experienced professionals are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week monitoring your security system. When your system detects an intruder or fire, it automatically transmits a signal to our central monitoring facility where our operators respond immediately. Q. What is the importance of having a local monitoring center for my system? A. Local Means: all of your calls go directly to our on-site Central Monitoring Station, located in Baton Rouge across from Cortana Mall. There are no pre-dial delays. Our operators are informed about local weather issues and areas with recent outbreaks of criminal activity, which helps them serve you quickly and efficiently. Local Means: our operators develop excellent working relationships with local emergency response dispatchers and are familiar with their procedures and protocols. Local Means: the number of people who have access to your emergency call sheet and other confidential information is limited. Your information stays on-site at our local offices–the same place your calls are answered 24 hours a day. Q. What is the significance of the UL designation of Custom Security’s Monitoring Center? A. The UL-listed designation is a distinction earned by Custom Security from Underwriters’ Laboratories, an international testing facility that sets guidelines for security compliance. Our guarantee to you is validated annually by this independent third party. Q. I have a security system that was installed by another company. Can Custom monitor it? A. We can monitor most any system, no matter who installed it. With over three decades of experience, we are experienced with just about every kind of security system on the market. We’ll even connect your existing system to our UL-listed monitoring station for free. Q. How often should I test my alarm system? A. You should test your alarm system once a week and after any power outages or phone service. Q. How do I test my alarm system? A. Call our Monitoring Station at 927-5535 before beginning the test. Set the alarm off and let it sound for 45 seconds. After turning the alarm off, call the monitoring center again to be sure your signal was received. Q. How does my alarm system’s back-up battery work? A. Your system is equipped with a back-up battery so that it continues to work in the event of a power outage. Every 24 hours, your system automatically performs a battery test. If this test fails, the information is transmitted to our monitoring center and your keypad may beep or display LOW BATTERY. One of our operators will notify you so you can replace the battery. Q. How often should I replace my back-up battery? Why should I have an extra one? A. The back-up battery should be replaced approximately every three years. In the event of an extended power outage, having an extra battery is recommended. You may purchase replacement and extra batteries at our business office Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Battery replacement guide Q. How long will smoke detectors last and how often should I test them? A. The National Fire Protection Association recommends replacing smoke detectors every ten years or sooner, depending upon conditions. Testing should be done twice a year, with periodic maintenance such as dust and insect removal. Always have extra batteries on hand to replace as needed.
