The successful applicant will have a B.S./M.S. in biochemistry, cell biology, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in an industry laboratory setting. Experience with cell culture, cell-based assays, and flow cytometry is essential. Some background in antibody drug development and oncology is desirable. Good communication skills and a “can do” attitude are significant positive attributes for any applicant.
The position requires a B.S./M.S. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or an equivalent field with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory research experience in molecular biology or protein engineering. The successful candidate will have an extensive working knowledge of molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning by PCR/recombination methods, mutagenesis and highly diverse library design. Knowledge of Vector NTI, Sequencher or other sequence manipulation software is highly desirable. The ideal candidate would also have flow cytometry and mammalian cell culture experience. The ability to work with numerous samples in parallel while following detailed scientific protocols and maintaining scientific record keeping is required. The candidate must be productive in a dynamic, expanding research environment, thrive within a team, be able to communicate scientific information effectively and be open to and capable of learning new skills efficiently.
This individual should have a strong background in values-based leadership, with experience in the development and application of molecular diversity techniques (e.g. phage display) for antibody/protein engineering, structure/function analysis, and manufacturability assessment. Experience in hybridoma/B-cell antibody discovery, humanization and affinity-maturation is also required.
Sean McCarthy has more than 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry, including business development, venture capital, program management and research management. Prior to joining CytomX in January 2011, he was a transactional partner at Pappas Ventures, where he helped drive investments in therapeutic, medical device and molecular diagnostic companies, including the formation and financing of Afferent Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Pappas Ventures, Dr. McCarthy was the vice president of business development at SGX Pharmaceuticals Inc., where he spearheaded a wide range of strategic partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies, including a $515 million oncology alliance with Novartis, and led a strategic re-orientation that resulted in the successful initial public offering of the company in 2006.
