Description
In 1999, The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) established the David R. Jones Center for Leadership in Philanthropy. This Center sponsors the Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service (IPVS) and other programs to teach people the traditions of philanthropy in the United States and the importance of a free-market economy to the creation of wealth. There are over 300 alumni living all over the U.S. and abroad. Academically focused on how the history, economics and politics of a democracy are affected by voluntary service, students explore the ethics, practice and role of philanthropy in America. The Institute explores the practical and theoretical questions surrounding the nonprofit sector. This mission is accomplished through classes, an internship experience and a variety of leadership activities including guest lectures, site briefings, panel discussions and the Institute Philanthropy Project. The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) was founded in 1967 to help instill in young people an appreciation for the American form of government and the free enterprise system. TFAS sponsors twelve Institutes that teach college students about the principles and values upon which the United States was founded.
